Turbulence 03:35
Put miles between us Take off to the sky Too soon to have to say goodbye This loving and leaving My attachment style Even wishful thinking has a shelf life May everywhere you fly from here be safe and smooth High up above my turbulence Where grey meets blue I wish the best of luck to you No lonely vanity Needing to be seen No dusty relic to remind you where you've been Onward and upward Forward to your dreams This is how we face defeat now separately May everywhere you fly from here be safe and smooth High up above my turbulence Where grey meets blue I wish the best of luck to you May everywhere you fly from here be safe and smooth High up above my turbulence Where grey meets blue I wish the best of luck to you Fly away Way over my head Into the sunset

Graceful lady with the lamps In the back of my mind you’re setting up camp Putting new shades on old bases Showing skin in suggestive places Patient waiting for the dance Does this skinny have a chance? If you came to my rescue Courageously like not everyone would do Hedging bets on shore leave sailors Letting go of your fear of failure One of us is led astray Does it matter anyway? Hopeless hurdle stumble fall If you see no good in me at all Stretching out like Chinese dragons Two dead horses drag my wagon Poles between these sagging lines It's not the best in us that rhymes Short of anything that works Could there be success or triumph over hurt? A chance to change when things get broken Who can tell if you’re only joking? Graceful lady with the lamps In the back of my mind you’re setting up camp

Always in mind though we're far apart Keeping an idea afloat Easier when you're within my reach Always the night on the beach When I said, "Look at the pretty lights Guiding the boats which way to go" My arm around your shoulder With you in my heart Picture the people in all their cars Glittering over the bridge Nobody knows how long they have Taking the day as a gift Now, look at the pretty lights Guiding the boats which way to go My arm around your shoulder With you in my heart Now that I've waited enough I'm sure That you are worth waiting for Saving for you, protecting space That you may be adored Look at the pretty lights Guiding the boats which way to go My arm around your shoulder With you in my heart My arm around your shoulder You're here in my heart

Love grew weedy in the shade A season's doubt set seed Undermining inner monologue Lead you to believe All your worries were reality All your worries were reality Now your perfect man Has a heart without a soul While the light of his foreign land Illuminates the hole in you There is no perfect man There is no perfect man Love got compartmentalized The centre could not hold Diminishing capacity Has left you on your own Now you struggle with reality Now you struggle with reality And your perfect man Has a heart without a soul While the light from his foreign land Illuminates the hole in you There is no perfect man There is no perfect man There is no perfect man There is no perfect man

Thirty Four 03:08
Flaked on the bed beside me Your stockings are though Now could your lonely dream be true? Thirty four In love no more Now could your lonely dream be true? Fear of your broken beauty Sadness of eye Honey, your bedside table don’t lie Thirty four In love no more Honey, your bedside table don’t lie Wired with a line still buzzing You’re making me stay Holding my arms like I might fly away Thirty four In love no more Holding my arms like I might fly away Holding my arms like I might fly away

It's Over 01:58
It’s over Over Things won’t be the same It’s over Over Sad and such a shame All the joy and pain You will love again All the joy and pain You will love again

Cursed be the man who breaks his bread In the sweat of his brow Blessed be the bride on who it shines It's raining in my house Catastrophe, catastrophe, catastrophe Warding off catastrophe The bright side of me Fighting hard but unsuccessfully The bright side of me The bright side of me Take your records, take your wine What was ours has returned to being yours or mine Put your faith in the promise of a liar Did he set your heart on fire? Were you blind? Warding off catastrophe The bright side of me Fighting hard but unsuccessfully The bright side of me The bright side of me The bright side of me Asking why did he love me The way that he loved me The last time he loved me? Asking why did he love me The way that he loved me The last time he loved me? Catastrophe, catastrophe, catastrophe Catastrophe, catastrophe, catastrophe Warding off catastrophe The bright side of me Fighting hard but unsuccessfully The bright side of me The bright side of me The bright side of me The bright side of me

Follow the river, graceful and slow Build on the high tide, wait through the low Forever changing, flowing one way Down from the mountains tall, made out of rain Sing for December, sing for July After the darkness, always light Joy and sorrow and all between Sing for the lost ones, sunrise unseen Don't hold too tightly to what might have been Gone now forever, with you they'll be Safe as the treasure of memory Sing for the sunshine, sing for the rain Joy and sorrow will be both washed away Sing for tomorrow not yesterday Try to be patient, lessons are learned Love without needing love in return Love without needing love in return

Galaxy 03:25
Please, please accept this offering And read, read between the lines I sing You can see me magnified In darkness and the light No more playing hide and seek What you find is yours to keep I want you watching over me To be my galaxy The weight of the world The weight of the world The weight of the world The weight of the world The weight of the world The weight of the world The weight of the world It won't be too much for me Fortune may not shine for us But every hurt will heal enough You can build your home in me And be my galaxy

Lovebirds 03:03
The sparkle in your eye gave you away Something that your heart was shy to say Lonely little love bird broke her wing Though she cannot fly she still can Sing so sweetly for her baby Depending on how well you play your cards The end may be as sudden as the start Devotion doesn't mean beholden to Treasuring and trusting that you Feel all these feelings without speaking Lovebirds want the same thing Lovebirds want the same thing Sing so sweetly for her baby Lovebirds want the same thing Lovebirds want the same thing Lovebirds, lovebirds, lovebirds Lovebirds want the same thing

From your heels up to your hair Who's hiding under there? Share your loveliness with laughter And riding on the thrill Of magic flying dreams Bruises everywhere Now that you are here You can play your drum beside me My broken tambourine Is murder on my thigh It takes time and care to grow into the new normal It takes time and care to grow into the new normal The child is not released The bridge is incomplete Help me hold the beat for this one My broken tambourine Is murder on my thigh It takes time and care to grow into the new normal It takes time and care to grow into the new normal It takes time and care It takes time and care It takes time and care to grow into the new normal

about

On his sixth solo album much-loved Melbourne musician Nick Batterham serves up a lavish feast of orchestral pop that explores love’s dizzy highs and heart-wrenching lows.

Batterham has become a master at crafting sparkling pop songs, memorable guitar licks and irresistible melodies.

On Lovebirds he builds on these foundations – and on the experience of composing an album of original classical music for Rone’s award-winning 2019 Empire project – to make a record that is at times warm and inviting, but also knows how to convey the chill of aloneness.

A stalwart of the Melbourne music scene for the past 25 years, Nick Batterham is a prolific artist who has lent his immense musicality to beloved local acts The Earthmen, Blindside, Cordrazine and most recently, The Bell Streets, as well as regular compositional collaborations with renowned visual artist RONE. Nick’s upcoming sixth studio album, Lovebirds bristles with spiky observations and raw emotion, delivered with the world-weariness of Elliott Smith or Nick Drake, while the production nods to Phil Spector at his most opulent.

Promising a lavish feast of orchestral pop that explores love’s dizzying highs and soul crushing lows, Lovebirds is now available for pre-order on limited edition red vinyl, black vinyl, CD and digitally. This comes with a free digital download of the album upon release date, and with instant access to Nick’s first two singles ‘No Perfect Man’ and ‘Turbulence’ right now. Release date 21 May 2021.
